About The Area

Rhyd Ddu Outdoor Centre & Bunkhouse is situated in the village of Rhyd Ddu, on the A4085 between Beddgelert and Caernarfon. The village is literally at the foot of mount Snowdon within the beautiful Snowdonia National Park.

Nestled on the outskirts of Bro Lleu (the Nantlle Valley), the Lon Eifion national cycle / walking path, Dinas Dinlle’s award-winning Blue Flag beach, Pant Du Vineyard, Glynllifon Craft Workkshops and so much more (all highly recommended!) are only a short drive away.

Rhyd Ddu overlooks the stunning lakes of Llyn y Gadair and is very close to both Llyn Cwellyn and Llyn y Dywarchen. Two major footpaths up Snowdon – the Rhyd Ddu path and the Snowdon Ranger path – both start very near to the Centre. There are also several woodland and countryside walks within easy reach of Rhyd Ddu Outdoor Centre & Bunkhouse.

The bunkhouse is situated only 200 yards from the Rhyd Ddu station of the Welsh Highland Railway. The Welsh Highland Railway is the UK’s longest heritage railway and runs for 25 miles from Caernarfon, past the foot of Snowdon, Rhyd Ddu Outdoor Centre & Bunkhouse and the picture postcard village of Beddgelert, then through the stunning Aberglaslyn Pass and on to Porthmadog. Passengers ride in some of the most comfortable carriages on any heritage railway in the UK, including first class Pullman luxury and freshly-cooked food delivered to your seat.

There is a pub and a tea room within a 2 minute walk of the bunkhouse and both offer various meals.

We work alongside local caterers and can arrange a catering package to suit your requirements should this be of interest – anything from packed lunches to tasty hot meals after a long day on the mountain.
