Access Statement

Rhyd Ddu Outdoor Centre is split into two properties on the same site: The Old School House and The Old School.

The Old School

There are three access doors to the centre:

  • via the door to the front (road side) of the property over one doorstep;
  • via the door to the side of the property, into the kitchen, over one doorstep;
  • via the door to the rear (yard side) of the property, where wheelchair access is provided.

Wheelchair access is via the rear door, through the large dormitory bedroom down the ramp.

There are no stairs inside the property and no internal steps.

A payphone is provided for guests’ use. The minimum charge is 50p. Emergency use (for calling the emergency services) is free of charge.

There is one bedroom sleeping 2 located just off the main communal room, and another large dormitory bedroom sleeping 12 at the rear of the property.

There is ample lighting throughout.

The fire alarm panel is located directly opposite the front entrance door in the entrance hallway, above the payphone.

Fire extinguishers and detectors are provided throughout the property.

A fibre speed Wi-Fi connection to the internet is available throughout the property. Access details are available inside the property.

There is one designated disabled toilet including support frame and emergency alarm.

There is one separate toilet cubicle and two urinals.

There are two showers separated by curtains for privacy. There is no cubicle or step to enter the showers; in order to increase accessibility the arrangement is that of a wet room.

The kitchen includes a large electric cooker, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge, freezer, pots & pans, plates, bowls and cutlery.

The first aid box is located in the kitchen.

Heating is via gas heaters and electric heaters. Water is heated by a series of individual gas boilers.

The Old School House

Access to the house is via the door at the side of the property over two doorsteps.

There is one bedroom located on the ground floor sleeping 3.

Also on the ground floor are 3 toilets, 2 shower cubicles, 3 washbasins and a kitchenette.

The kitchenette includes a kettle, teaspoons and mugs.

There is ample lighting throughout.

There are three bedrooms each sleeping 4 on the first floor, accessible by stairs only. Due to the historic nature of the property the stairs are very steep.

Heating is via gas central heating. Water is heated by a mix of gas and electricity boilers.

The site in general

There is ample off-road private parking for guests.

Secure bike storage facilities are provided on site.

The site benefits from automatic-sensor lighting to the rear yard / parking area. Additional (switched) external lighting is also available).

Mobile phone signal strength is weak. Some networks have limited coverage here whilst others have none.

The nearest bus stop is located approximately 200 meters from the site.

The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland narrow gauge railway station is located approximately 50 meters from the site.

The nearest mainline railway station is seventeen miles away in Bangor, LL57 1LZ.
