Walking & Climbing
Whether your interest lies in hill walking, mountain walking or leisure walking, Rhyd Ddu is the perfect location for enjoying all Snowdonia has to offer. No matter what your interest, there are plenty of routes to suit all groups from families with young children to hardened climbers and extreme thrill seekers, all within a short distance of Rhyd Ddu Outdoor Centre & Bunkhouse.
There are four major walking routes situated right on our doorstep:
The Rhyd Ddu Path
Graded as an 8 and a half mile, hard mountain walk, this path up Snowdon is the quietest of the six main routes to the summit, and the one that offers the most striking mountain scenery, especially towards Moel Hebog and the hills of Nantlle. We are situated 2 minutes from the start of the Rhyd Ddu Path up Snowdon.
Lon Gwyrfai
We are situated 2 minutes from the start of the Lon Gwyrfai leisure walk to Beddgelert.
The Snowdon Ranger Path
A popular route up Snowdon, this is graded as a hard, 8 mile mountain walk which takes approximately 6 hours (there and back). We are situated 10 minutes from the start of the Snowdon ranger Path up Snowdon.
The Nantlle Ridge
Starting at Rhyd Ddu and ending in the village of Nebo, this is a truly fantastic and enjoyable mountain walk with lots of variety. The Nantlle Ridge is one of the most spectacular in Snowdonia. The start of The Nantlle Ridge walk is situated just 5 minutes from the bunkhouse – in fact, this will be your view from the bunkhouse garden of an evening as you relax on our benches with a well earned drink.
