Coed y Brenin in Ganllwyd was the first forest to be developed for the sport of mountain biking and to this day retains its reputation as one of the sport’s premier locations. With a range of routes suitable for everyone from families and novices, to rocky technical trails for expert riders – its specially adapted features make Coed-y-Brenin Forest Park the first truly inclusive mountain bike destination in the United Kingdom.
The four fantastic Antur Stiniog downhill mountain bike trails in Blaenau Ffestiniog are hugely popular, and with one of the best mountain bike uplift services in the UK, if not the world, this should be on your to-do list.
Right on your doorstep are the fantastic mountain biking trails of Beddgelert Forest boasting stunning views east towards Snowdon. There are two loops which are the Yellow Trail which is 9.5km and the Green Trail which is 4km. Both are highly recommended!
The Snowdonia Etape Eryri is now firmly recognised as one of the UK’s very best road cycling events. The Etape starts from nearby Caernarfon, and takes you around the best roads, views and of course climbs the Snowdonia National Park has to offer. The event is an incredible day of cycling, live music and family activities.
Oh, and not to forget Route 8 of the National Cycle Network Routes – it passes directly through the Nantlle Valley via the Lon Eifion trail. This scenic, traffic-free route from Caernarfon to Bryncir runs alongside the Welsh Highland Railway and offers wonderful views of Caernarfon Bay and Snowdonia; perfect for walking or cycling.
